Visit to the Wegberg-Wildenrath Testing and Validation Center

At the invitation of the manager, Markus Bertrams, we visited the Test and Validation Center of Siemens Mobility GmbH (PCW) in Wegberg-Wildenrath. We were given vividly presented insights into the existing infrastructure with the various possibilities for testing, validation and approval of rail vehicles and systems.

Some test stands and facilities were visited and competently explained, e.g. the twisting and weighing equipment and the elevated test tracks with catenary in the hall area. The test center certainly offers many interesting fields of activity for future scientists, both in the student training phase (e.g. internship) and for starting a career with a bachelor's or master's degree.

After a snack, we were given the opportunity to take a ride on an ICE 4 on the large test track. The highlight for some of us was the opportunity to drive the vehicle under supervision. A certificate as "train driver on test track T1" was presented afterwards.
