First doctoral degree at the IFS in 2026

Our former colleague Paul Schönhuber wrote his dissertation on the topic: “Driving dynamics analysis and optimization of a novel lightweight bogie for freight cars.”

Present on January 15, 2026, the day of the oral examination, were Prof. Schindler and Prof. Pfaff (IFS) as well as Prof. Markus Hecht, TU Berlin. The chair of the proceedings, Univ.-Prof. Dr. sc. Sebastian Trimpe (DSME, RWTH), welcomed the candidate and the audience at the beginning. Before the oral examination, Paul Schönhuber gave his doctoral lecture entitled: “Is it worthwhile to introduce DAK in rail freight transport?”

Many friends and former colleagues from his time at IFS made their way to Aachen to congratulate him and join in the celebrations.
IFS extends its warmest congratulations.
