Courses at the IFS

Specialisations Rail Vehicle Engineering/Extraction Technology

The degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration & Engineering: Mechanical Engineering are structured into a bachelor’s degree program with a duration of 7 semesters, followed by a master’s degree program lasting 3 semesters.

Although the bachelor’s degree fundamentally qualifies the graduates to practice the engineering profession, only the master’s degree, which is equivalent to the former Diplom degree, provides the deeper proficiency that is essential for the professional practice in the industry or the further academic qualification via doctoral studies at the university. This is why the German technical universities consider the master’s degree as the standard university degree.

The bachelor program of both Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration & Engineering: Mechanical Engineering is structured into 4 parts:

 

The modules corresponding to the occupational field provide a first insight into the tasks and topics that an engineer has to face in a specific industrial sector or while playing a certain role in an industrial company. The modules of the selected occupational field are the recommended prerequisite for the choice of the corresponding master’s degree program. Nevertheless, it is still possible to attend the Automotive Engineering and Transport master program after having chosen another occupational field during the bachelor program.

The IFS organizes some courses of the occupational field Transportation Engineering, which set the requirements for the master program Automotive Engineering and Transport. Within this program, the students can choose a specialisation between Street Vehicle Engineering, Rail Vehicle Engineering and Extraction Technology. The core subjects of the specialisations Rail Vehicle Engineering and Extraction Technology are in large part offered by the IFS.

In addition, we offer a practical course onrailway vehicles as part of the elective courses.

The modules offered by the IFS are largely independent and can therefore be chosen by students in other occupational fields of the bachelor program or as elective choice in master programs, directly or indirectly through modification of the study program.

Excursions and industrial colloquiums, as well as seminars, complete the scope of our courses.
