IFS "Goes Additive"

The IFS acted as a mediator in the press conference of the “Mobility Goes Additive” network that took place at the Institute of Digital Additive Production of the RWTH on the 10th of July. The network was initiated by the Deutsche Bahn and aims to establish the additive manufacturing technology – popularly known as 3D printing – and the development of innovative products in the vehicle and transport technology sectors. The RWTH, represented by both institutes mentioned above, is one of the strategic partners of the network as for research and education of future professionals. Rail vehicles often need replacement parts during the more than 30 years that lasts their service life and these are more difficult to obtain as the time elapsed since the production date increases. The additive manufacturing can be a solution to this problem by producing parts that even improve the quality of the original ones. The IFS supports the development, calculation and testing of such parts.
