The structures of the load-bearing components of a rail vehicle must do their job for decades without failure. Wheelsets, chassis frames and car bodies must be designed for 'safe life' in any case, as there is no fallback level. The wagon body must be designed in particular against fatigue loads and also collision-proof. This course initially concentrates on the design of the wagon body in terms of strength and collision safety and the corresponding verification procedure.
